| I know it wouldnt of suited tysons style, but did prime tyson have the feet to get up on his toes and dance around the ring as fast and as good as tyrell biggs and larry holmes ? . I think mike did , if you ever seen prime tyson on the skipping rope he looks light on his feet and his feet appear to be cordinated , which is what dancing is about . |
I think you are right. Let me first set straight that with Prime Tyson i mean the Rooney-Tyson (pre-Douglas). The Tyson after Rooney and after jail had less to none footwork (mainly because he stopeed training on it and was more bulkier than young Tyson),...but the prime Tyson had excellent to sometimes amazing footwork (watch the defense against Tillis punches, the brutal Marvis Frazier knockout and the amazing footwork used in the Mark Young knockout. I say that last example displayed the most impressive footwork by Tyson and has never been displayed by any boxer afterwards).
His foootwork was mainly to suit his agressive inside box-style eg by cutting opponents of in the ring (eg Marvis Frazier and Spinks) or to land punches from different angles (Mark Young).
If you look at his footwork action i do believe he was capable of being light-footed.
But since Mike Tyson mainly fights inside (and not from the outside) and never back opponents away with jabs from outside (Tyson doesn't want to keep his opponents on a safe distance,...he wants them to come inside so he can do some serious damage) Tyson never "danced" in the ring. |

No. I think that this question is Bizare, but I like it. Mike has to have a platform a good base if you will cause of his feet!! There not that big and when Mike generates power he uses his whole body or well he did when he was younger. He always seem to dig in, then WA BAM. No dancing and Jabbing if he did that he would look Crazy! Ali Larry are linky fighters Reach, Mike is Power and closer to the ground, Actually Mikes lower legs are not boxer legs at all.. Thighs are good, From the knees and below not the best boxers legs. Frazier Thick Calves and legs made to hold and balance a reliable foundation for an uper body which has to generate a lot of power. Nothing Pretty about Mike ` Power and Masterful `
I love Mike, And if you want out of boxing get out! |

I think this is the most stupidest question, i have heard about MiKE tYSON. He was able to haunt down bigger figthers, maybe fighters who dance around the ring. And the reason why Tyson was able to knock out a hurt a opponent at any time, because his feet are always in the right pistion, and if they were'nt then Tyson would do something about that! agility speed, exsplosivness MiKE tYSON IS ONE OF THE MOST GIFTED athletes in the division, along with Evander Holyfeild. Go on Evandreholyfeilds, website and he says some interesting tings about Mike Tyson. I just check it out, because i was curious the other day.
Thanks

No he does not have the feet to dance!!.. Boxers legs!! To dance one must stand! Mikes calves are smaller and his ankles are smaller than what you would expect for heavy weight boxers!! There are commintators who even thought this.. SO no He doesnt have the ability to prance around and be cute in the ring.. It would be Ludicris... If you seen anyone the of mikes fights at all you know this guy isnt going to be putting on a skirt and tip toeing around his aponnets for 12 rounds ..... anyways.... |

Actually size doesn't matter much. Look at Chris Byrd. He has small legs too, but has the ability to dance aswell. It's about how much spring-power you have in your legs and your "footspeed". From the training and fighting videos we can see Tyson has enought spring power in his leg to dance if he wants to.
But because it is a stupid and inefficient style for Tyson he has never done it and never will do it. |

Mike dosent have small calfs they are huge , short calfs yes but they are big , mike dose not have small ankles either they are at least as big as alis if not bigger . Cus is right to say mike dose have a lot of spring in his legs , holyfield even said that tyson had a lot of springs in his legs even though tyson was past his prime when he fought him . Cus you say dancing is about having a lot of spring in your legs, is this a fact or just your opinion ? . |

It's an logical observation and i'm sure many others would come to the same conclusion about the factors. |

just the fact that every tyson fight have seen i never seen him throw a jab while falling back.. in a rythm type of stance. up on his toes never like the great Ali. There is a difference in a power stance and a musical dance.. mike might be successful at this dancing thing, but as soon as there was trouble he would revert quickly to setting and then power shots... of course he has spring in his legs while jump roping!! but to say he would be successful being a type of fighter such as holmes in dancing and throwing a jab is CRAZY... larrrry was know for his jab and back out totally differnt fighters.. Mikes legs are small.. below the knee... for his upper body and thighs.. Dancers in the ring usually look for the back door Mikes never went near that door and i dont expect him too, and stands and sets lets it all go ---- if he gets knocked out he gets knocked out thats what makes him so great courage and strength and no backing down..... |

Tyson couldnt fight backwards because he was never taught to fight backing up , because cus damato figured that mike is going to find it a lot harder fighting guys with a longer reach on the outside, tyson didnt need to box backing up because in his prime nobody could back mike up trevor berbick tried to push tyson backwards and he received decapitating combinations for his trouble and if prime foreman tried to back mike up he would receive the same, I honestly believe tyson was stronger than foreman, tyson weighed more was more compact and he pushed guys around the ring who were 40 pounds heavier and who had much bigger frames like they were ragdolls . Sugar ray leonard who was the boxing expert during tysons prime and saw all of prime tysons fights said that you must use the jab and reach and give lateral positions and angles to be effective against mike tyson . |

I asked larry holmes on his site weather tyson had the ability to dance around the ring and bounce on his toes ? . Larry said he didnt have the ability to do dance and bounce on his toes . Larry said tyson was a brawler not a boxer . Is larry right about tyson not being able to dance and bounce on his toes or is he just stating an opinion ? . |
