he's fighting Hopkins on March 11, This fight wont be competive though.. as both will most likely retire after this fight.. but i still believe it shall be an exciting match, and if Jones can beat him .. it would be great to retire like that .. Everyone would forget about the 3 back to back looses and Jones has the opputurnity To fight another legend and finish on a high .. certainly a win against hopkins before he retires will certainly compensate for the 3 defeats. but then again if he looses 4 back to back defeats will certainly leave a big hole in his career..
it should be interesting who should be the favourite coming into this fight, as both have been loosing but Hopkins 2 loses to Taylor have been questionable and Jones 3 defeats are solid loses.. but then again Jones is the heavier man and the natural light heavyweight.. so this should be a very interesting fight and what a great fight to see 2 legends close on their careers by fighting against each other again after 13 years... and since those 13 years there careers have gone in different direction and both have the right to be called and remebered as legends.. |

i brought this topic up somewhere in 2005, but this is now Part 2 of this topic , Can Roy jones return to his best? , once again its in the balance. he won his last fight but hasnt fought in a whole year , he's fighting a talented youngster soon by the name of Anthony Hanshaw , i think if Roy jones beats this guy , then he could be a Figure once again in boxing |

To close this topic, No RJJ will not return to his best, not now, not ever.
RJJ was all about lightning speed and that is long gone (age comes to all of us), and he cannot get it back. He still has the power and perhaps he can change his game and focus on utilising his power most effectively and prolong his career a little moore.
More worryingly though, in his last few fights RJJ has bascially been in the ring to survive the distance and like that he will have queues of guys wanting to fight him and probably beating him. |

Good point, I personally don't think he should have gone back down once he had won at heavyweight. All the weight (muscle) he had to drop will not have done him any good at all, loss of strength etc....
Add to that his slowng speed and Jones not changing his boxing style to accomodate that, at elite level he is a shadow of his former self. |

Yes i did him no favors but he had to come back down or he would have to have fought the likes of lewis and tyson who would have really hurt him i think it was a mistake to go up in the first place but that said what an achievement it was all the same |

the Verdict is in, 40 year old Jones beats 32 year old Jeff Lacey. Hey that's pretty impressive, i think, his last few bouts before this were a little lacking in opponent capabilities, but this proved that he was once the greatest of all time in his weight divisions. He has alot of heart, and pure talent, and is one of the few men who can get away with keeping his hands down(Ali), but when he does put up his guard he can block alot of punches(once again Ali), but anyone who talks *Censor* on him probably is just a hater or blind. |
