What height was tyson really ? .

When tyson was 21 he was listed as being 5'11 and a half , but boxing commentators and the media were always speculating that he was shorter, dose anyone know if mike was really 5' 11 and a half or not ? .

I have a feeling he is about 5'11". He looks that tall. I know some people would say he looks shorter, but honestly if you stand him up next to his opponents....he looks about three inches shorter than the 6'2" Etienne. Same applies for the 6'1 1/2" Williams whom he stood next to at the press conference.

I would say right around 5'11" or so. Its very difficult to gauge a persons actual height. I bet 5'11", give or take a half inch.

I remember when they measured tyson on hbo , he was standing against a height chart and although he looked just about 5'11 hbo said he was 5'11 and a half, but kevin rooney states mike tyson is 5'11 and a half, but there always use to be controversy over tysons height , larry merchant was always saying that tyson looked closer to 5'10 than 6 foot . I mean I am 5'11 and a half myself and looking at tyson as young man I dont think he looks as tall as me .

Yes, but Mike Tyson is incredibly muscled, thick and dense. Wide shoulders and thick legs.

He will look shorter than he actually is.

The same applies for me. I am 5'10 1/2". People always say I look shorter, but I stand and get measured....same height. Its because my build is similar to the type of build Mike Tyson has. I weigh 220 lbs. I have done a lot of weightlifting and played football. I look shorter than I am because I am broad.

Look at someone weighing 150 lbs and 5'11" ....then do the same for a Tyson-libe built guy. The skinnier one will look taller. Put them back to back, and then they will look the same height.

I am a fairly big build and weigh about 170 pounds although I am only 5'11 and a half a lot of people think I am 6'1 or 6'2 for some reason .

Thats my point. Although you are bigger than the "average" male American.
What do they say now? 5'10" and 155 lbs? Something like that.

Anyways, Mike Tyson is 5'11" and weighs(ed) 215 - 225 lbs. And that is when he is in incredible shape. He is a very big boned, thickly muscled man. The wider one is, the shorter they will appear.

Like you said, you are 5'11 1/2" and some people think you are 6'1". I would assume that is because, although bigger than the average male, do not not huge thighs, wide shoulders, thick back, etc. Its really all about visual perception.

Why is it so important? When he stands next to his opponents, he looks the difference there is, around 3 inches next to 6'2" people like holyfield or williams or etienne. So for sure he is very close to 5'11. A little more or less, what difference would it make? I dunno, but you seem obsessed by it.

That is my point. It is very hard to tell exactly how tall someone is. In fact, even when measured, if you slouch even slightly, you will be shorter.

Tyson looks to be right around 5'11", give or take 1/2". The point is that he is short for a heavyweight, but has achieved so much. Myself, being under 6 feet can look up to a shorter, smaller guy for his accomplishments.

I would say Mike is more like 5'10 - I saw him when he was in training in London to fight Julius Francis - it doesn't really matter that much anyway, Mike makes up for it in speed, aggression, power and an excellent jab when he can be bothered to use it!! There've been plenty of good, short-ish heavies including Joe Frazier and Rocky Marciano.
