steve wasnt there bust up with don king and english fight promoter frank warren.
also steve how good did u rate mike
do you ever speak or see kevin rooney, and do you think they would ever talk
do u ever go to catskill, and do u know wats happened to the house, wats peoples views on mike in catskill many thanks
The reason Mike liked sleeping on my couch was because at that time he was a down to earth guy. He had no jewelry, no clothes to speak of, no car, and he was the happiest kid you can ever imagine.
Sure there were times in between fights - when Mike was traveling - that he would call and ask me to send him a bunch of cash for him to party with.
But, when he was here in New York City, he had everything he needed to make him happy. I lived on the 26th floor of an apartment building, Jim Jacobs lived with his wife Loraine on the 15th floor of the same building. Whenever Mike wanted to hang out he would just go to Jim's apartment. When he got tired he came back upstairs and watched TV until he fell asleep.
Jim asked Mike a couple of times if we should get Mike his own apartment and Mike said he was fine sleeping in mine. I loved it because there is no thrill, and I mean no thrill, greater than coming out of my bedroom in the morning and there, sleeping on my couch, in my apartment, is the HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD.

To SPENCE -
I do not know exactly where I would rate Mike as a fighter. He might be number 1, 2, 3, 4, I really do not know. But more important than where he rates is this - in my opinion Mike was the most EXCITING fighter of all time. And I think that is more important than being the best.
Mike never sees or speaks with Kevin. Mike is much too embarassed to call Kevin.
I believe the house in Catskill was sold about 10 eyars ago.
I never go to Catskill because there are no fighters who go there to train. And it is quite far from New York City, about 200 kilometers.
If I ever met Mike I would want to hug him.
I would hope he would think the same.
But, based upon the movie he just completed, he is surrounded by scum 24 hours a day so I do not know what evil concepts they are feeding Mike day - in - day - out.
You never know what kind of "brainwashing" they are putting Mike through.
One thing is certain , they do not want Mike speaking to me, or anyone who tells Mike right from wrong.
I know that is certain because these "managers" Mike has now would have had Mike call me and tell me to back off the negative comments I have made about the movie. They do not tell Mike about these comments. They do not want Mike to call me becuase they think that there is a chance, although slim, that I could convince Mike to leave them and get advisors who actually care about him.
Mike's current "managers" do not want to lose their possible cash cow, Mike Tyson
I dont mean this in a bad way, but surely by now mike can work out who's out to *Censor* him and who's not. surely he must realize the best ppl for him were those in the begining. or is it just that he's to embarresed to admit?
This could be the case, but i also get the feeling sometimes that he's just not bothered and wants to look to the future and not to the past.
Steve you have made me not want to see this film. if its full of mike not speakin the truth i'd be disapointed and would rather save my time.
mike gave up on his team but his team also gave up on mike i'm sure deep down steve lot , cus damato , kevin rooney knew mike will go with don king & f--k everything up fighters are mentally the toughest people on earth the ones that fight in a square ring the determination etc. is unbelievable for a human to do so when a fighter gets to this level it means he never ever gave up no matter what unless his body gives up on him but my question is what gave up to the original team tyson . if i was training someone & king got me fired i'd be in jail for doing something to him or i'd get someone to do a final job but it seems to me that tyson fired everyone & they accepted it . tyson was mentally weak when it came to relationships so you should have visited him with rooney when he was in jail or after the douglas fight but team tyson had no determination after all . i'm just happy that tyson was around in my lifetime & not another if i could choose a heavyweight to represent my lifetime it would probably be tyson or marciano or louis . STEVE WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO RELEASE THE TYSON TRAINING FOOTAGE YOU HAVE or a you waiting for don king to claim it as well ?
I got a question for Steve . Steve is it true when Teddy Atlas says that when mike was young and on the streets he would knock old ladies out and rob them sometimes??? He said that in one of the documentries. Iv always wondered about that one.
You are 100% correct. I have not spoken with Mike in many years. I really do not know what he is thinking right now. But I do know the way he feels.
I do know his history:
1. He was a world-wide hero with Jacobs, Cayton and Rooney.
2. He was turned into the bum of the century by Robin Givens, Don King, Shelly Finkel, Harlan Werner and the others.
Now, while I have not spoken to Mike in years it doesn't take much to put yourself in his shoes for a moment. He is still a human being with feelings. He remembers 1984-1988, being loved and adored throughout the world and now because of Givens, King, Finkel and Werner he is laughed at and despised. I am using my imagination to try to think of how he must feel about that.
Just put yourself in his shoes for a moment. You remember being a hero once. Everyone loved you: white people, black people, green people. You were the happiest guy in the world. You are a superstar . Everyone recognizes you immediately. Then some con men turned you into a bum. Now, everywhere you go you can hear people laughing at you, calling you names behind your back. Every newspaper you read makes fun of you and calls you a bum.
Tell me - how do you think you would feel?
Well, that's that way Mike feels.
Once again I will say that you are 100% correct that I have not spoken to Mike in years. But, I have spoken to his managers. I have given his managers the exact blueprint to bring Mike back in a positive way. They not only ignored my suggestions completely, but, to make matters worse they convinced Mike to do this bogus film.
It really is not difficult to see that Mike is hurting. But, he is still too embarrassed to tell the world he made the mistake of the century when he left Bill Cayton and Kevin Rooney in 1988.
Response to Spartan3k:
We will be releasing the training footage. We are working on building a new Boxing Hall of Fame. Once the deal is made and the project gets underway the footage will be part of the project. And the Tyson exhibit in the HOF will show the exact history of how Mike went from being a hero and how he was conned by Givens, King, Finkel, and Werner.
Steve what about my question (above yours) i'v honestly been wondering for years. I first heard this comment by Teddy back in 2002 when i was watching the hype for Lewis-Tyson
But I believe that he did all the bad things that Teddy says he did. I imagine that Mike did things even worse than the things that Teddy and others reported.
But, that was all before 5 years of Cus D'amato.
The great job that D'amato did is very easy tp prove.
The New York Police Department, The FBI, and the DEA ( Drug Enforcement Agency ) all hired Tyson to be their spokesperson. Agencies like these hire only the hightest caliber of spokesperson. And that was Mike before Givens, King, Finkel, and Werner.
