Hi, I hope Mike finds time to visit this forum. I just wanted to say that his rampage through the heavyweight division in the late 80's was truly inspirational and enthralling. This kid brought me closer to my father. I didn't have much a relationship with the guy or with boxing since we didn't have cable. We weren't destitute, but we had to manage our finances. A local bookie had a tiny room at a local roach motel and he would always igonvite us over to watch the Tyson fights. It was awesome! 8 ignorant rednecks sitting on a questionably stained bedspread pulling for Iron Mike Tyson. Those times with my father, a couple uncles and cousins were great. I hope the heavyweight can bring the excitement that you brought once again. I enjoyed what you did for us and I wish you the best. I wish you would have let Carl da Tooth Williams last a little longer since that was the last fight my father and I watched together. Take Care,
Artie |

Artie, Very touching story, I too spent many hours watching Mike's fights with my late father. I really miss those occasions, seems a long while ago now, my father died in 2000.
It's quite amazing in how many different ways Mike inspired people, obviously the media will always try to portray Mike in a negative light.
Great to read your post and in some way being able to relate to it. Those memories will always be with us !!

My dad also got me into Tyson. I remember watching the Berbick fight with my dad when I was only 8 years old and on the 28th may this year I took my dad with me and 2 friends to see Mike at the gateshead dinner tour in good old England and we all had a great night and I managed to get Mikes autograph and shake his hand, I have very big hands and tried to give him a bit of a squeeze but I had no chance against Tyson's gorilla type hands:) |
