Tyson Quotes

"He throws combinations I never saw before. I was stunned. Nothing is supposed to bother me. Ive worked with Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard, but Im seeing [from Tyson] a three-punch combination second to none. When have you seen a guy throw a right hand to the kidney, come up the middle with an uppercut, then throw a left hook?"

~ Angelo Dundee after the Tyson-Berbick fight

Mike Tyson News: Tyson granted license in Missouri

Posted on Wednesday, May 19, 2004 @ 06:42:42 UTC by tysonian

Mike Tyson has been granted a license in the State of Missouri,? stated Tim Lueckenhoof, the Admistrator of the Office of Athletics for State of Missouri, to FightNews. We verified his record. He admitted his (criminal) convictions and any disciplinary action he received from other boxing commissions. We issued the license with no restrictions. We would have issued the license to anyone with the same circumstances or similar situation.?

It looks like Tyson is serious about getting back in the ring this time. FightNews writer Lisa Scott had confirmed earlier this week that Tyson had begun his gym training at the Central Boxing Club in Phoenix after several weeks of conditioning in Arizona. Kevin The Clones Colossus? McBride (31-4-1, 26 KOs) is the most talked about candidate for a Tyson return that is tentatively scheduled for a July 31st. Shelly Finkel, the manager of Tyson, had informed FightNews that St. Louis, Missouri and Louisville, Kentucky were the forerunners to host Tysons first fight back since his 49 second bashing of Clifford Etienne fifteen months ago.

The license was approved on Friday, May 14th and Lueckenhoof stated that he mailed the approved permit this Monday to the office of Finkel. Ironically all Missouri boxing licenses expire on June 30th during even-numbered years, therefore Tyson will have to reapply if the July 31st bout occurs in Missouri. After June 30th, Tyson can renew his license for an automatic two-year period provided that nothing happens? between now and the date he reapplies. The renewal fee is $40.
