KEVIN McBride’s dream fight with Iron Mike Tyson is ON.

Ulsterman McBride is set to face Tyson on July 31 in either Hawaii or Las Vegas.

The Clones Clossus, who is based in Boston, is ready to live out his own ‘Rocky’ story against the former undisputed World heavyweight champion.

Tyson, now 37, may be well past his best but his promoter Shelly Finkel is putting him on track for one more shot at the World heavyweight title.

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph last night, McBride’s promoter Richie Campiello said: “Contracts have been exchanged and I would say a deal will be done within the next 48 hours.

“It will happen in Hawaii or Las Vegas on July 31. We just have to sort a couple of things out with the money.”

Campiello will naturally be keen to make sure that he and McBride cash in on Tyson’s latest comeback, which is expected to be screened by cable giant Showtime.

Tyson may be on the slide but he remains big box office and this fight should set up 31-year-old McBride for life.

Tyson’s career record reads as a ‘who’s who’ of top heavyweights over the past two decades, while McBride has always fallen short of the big time.

McBride used to be managed by Frank Maloney who handed him a shot at former European champion Axel Schulz, which was arguably his finest hour even though he lost in nine rounds.

More or less since then he has been chalking up victories against low level opposition in the States and now holds a record of 31 wins four defeats and one draw.
