On Monday night, the first lady of boxing Jackie Kallen put together a special three-bout card at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The premise behind the card, which drew a sold-out crowd of over 700, was to raise funds for Vista Del Mar, which is located in Los Angeles. Vista Del Mar Center are dedicated to the well-being and care of children and families in Southern California who suffer the emotional, physical, psychological and social consequences of abuse, neglect and abandonment.

Almost one million dollars was raised for Vista Del Mar from Monday night’s proceeds. Celebrities in attendance included former world champions Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns, Lightweight contender Ricky Quiles, female boxing champion Daisy Lang, actor/ songwriter Frank Stallone, Super Middleweight contender Joey Gilbert, Leila Milani (Deal or No Deal), Mitch Gaylord, Monte Hall, and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

In the fight of the night, actor Danny Bonaduce and OJ Simpson attorney Robert Shapiro fought in a three round exhibition. The crowd was stunned when former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson escorted Shapiro to the ring.

In a four
round Super Featherweight bout, Anthony Chavez made a successful pro debut
when he defeated Everardo Crespo. Both fighters had their moments in a
highly competitive bout. One judge scored the bout 39-36 for Crespo, while
the other judges had it 38-37 for Chavez. Crespo drops to 1-3.

Bantamweights Hailee
Lanker and Katarina De La Cruz fought to a four round split-decision draw.
Both fighters took the fight toward one another during the bout. De La
Cruz was the more polished fighter of the two. However, Lanker was aggressive
throughout the bout, pressing the action more. One judge scored the bout
3937 for each fighter, while the third judge had it 38-38. De La Cruz,
from Los Angeles, and Lanker, From San Diego, earned the respect of the
crowd as both fighters drew rounds of applause for their efforts.

In the fight of the
night, actor Danny Bonaduce and OJ Simpson attorney Robert Shapiro fought
in a three round exhibition. The crowd was stunned when former heavyweight
champion Mike Tyson escorted Shapiro to the ring. Despite the strong amateur
background of Bonaduce, Shapiro fought back bravely. Shapiro landed a
hard right hand to the head that would later be revealed to have broken
the nose of Bonaduce. At the end of the exhibition, the crowd was asked
to vote for the winner by applauding. Although it seemed as though Shapiro
had a slight edge, the bout was declared a draw.
