Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson was arrested Tuesday on accusations he jumped on the hood of a car outside of a Scottsdale nightclub last month, causing $1,400 in damage, police said.

Tyson, who moved to Scottsdale early this year, appeared with attorneys at the Scottsdale police station at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. He was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor criminal damage and released, said Scottsdale detective Sam Bailey. The arrest stems from an investigation into a Nov. 27 incident at downtown Scottsdale’s Pussycat Lounge, 4426 N. Saddlebag Trail, where Tyson was seen with several other people.

Police said Tyson severely dented the hood of a 1999 Toyota Solara when he jumped on the car as its 22-year-old driver was leaving the club at 12:45 a.m.

“Witnesses said that he appeared very intoxicated,” Bailey said.

It was unclear if the two men fought inside the club before the incident, or if they knew each other at all.

The victim, whose name was not released, reported the incident to police later that day, and the case was forwarded to detectives.
