Mike Tyson made an appearance in Paso Robles Tuesday morning at Kelly’s Restaurant at the corner Spring and 17th streets. The former heavyweight champion was reportedly accompanied by former lightweight champion Roberto Duran and a small entourage.

It is unknown why the fighters were in town, but several local residents believe it was because of a local trainer who works with professional boxers.

People in the restaurant said Tyson was very polite and friendly with customers and staff. Paso Robles resident Don Allen, who was eating in the restaurant at the time, said he wished Tyson “good luck” and the two men shook hands.

“He said, ‘Thank you, sir,'” Allen said. “He was very polite.”

Waitress Danielle De La Cruz took a photograph with the fighter and also got his autograph while manager Claire Azevedo got a hug. Azevedo said the group was “laughing and having a good time.”

Tyson’s breakfast menu included a steak, oatmeal, turkey sausages and hot chocolate. Duran ordered an omelet and coffee, according to the restaurant staff.
