One judge scored the bout 3937 for each fighter, while the third judge had it 38-38. De La Cruz, from Los Angeles, and Lanker, From San Diego, earned the respect of the crowd as both fighters drew rounds of applause for their efforts.

In the fight of the night, actor Danny Bonaduce and OJ Simpson attorney Robert Shapiro fought in a three round exhibition. The crowd was stunned when former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson escorted Shapiro to the ring. Despite the strong amateur background of Bonaduce, Shapiro fought back bravely. Shapiro landed a hard right hand to the head that would later be revealed to have broken the nose of Bonaduce. At the end of the exhibition, the crowd was asked to vote for the winner by applauding. Although it seemed as though Shapiro had a slight edge, the bout was declared a draw.
