| Danny Williams News: Danny Williams talks about Tyson |
|
|
 |
Leading British heavyweight
Danny Williams has paid tribute to Mike Tyson, whom he beat last July.
"I've always said that I beat a 40% Mike Tyson. I admitted that
before and after I fought Mike that I'd have no chance against even a
80% Mike Tyson. But I still think what I did was a good achievement -
even people like Evander Holyfield said the Tyson I fought looked great
for the first three rounds.
"But the Tyson who turned up the other Saturday didn't want to
fight. I think he was there because the people he owes money to made
him fight and I think he was almost glad he got beat because now he
doesn't have to train or run or do anything like that no more. Maybe
he'd thought to himself that 'If I can lose to a guy to Danny Williams,
I don't want to be here no more' but whatever it was, he was in no
shape to fight.
"It is sad that he's fought to this age. I know that I'm almost
contradicting myself here because if he hadn't have fought on so long
I'd never had beat him and got a big pay-day and a world heavyweight
title shot last December - but I grew up idolising Tyson and can't help
but feel for him and his fans.
"I think Mike Tyson is one of the two or three best heavyweights of
all time. He let himself down in later years, in many ways, but at his
peak he'd have beaten nearly every fighter who ever lived. I'd rank him
much higher than either Lennox Lewis or Evander Holyfield in spite of
the defeats.
"There are two ways to judge fighters in an historical context. One
is who you think would have beaten who, and I believe Mike Tyson at his
best would have wiped out Lewis and Holyfield inside three, four
rounds.
"The other way is to look at who at achieved what in their careers,
who had the most titles, title wins, beat the most champions and
reigned the longest. Judging on that, Lewis and Holyfield and some
others join Tyson at the top but if you prefer to look at who's best
was better than anyone else's best, then Mike Tyson is right up there
with Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes.
"At his best, Tyson was an unbelievable fighter and boxing fans
will be watching fights of his on tape or DVD or whatever else for
decades and decades to come. I hope Mike is happy with his legacy and
can now find some peace in his life."

| Danny Williams News: Danny Williams taunts 'Iron Mike' |

OPEN LETTER TO MIKE TYSON
Dear Mike,
I've read on the internet that you are now back in training and ready to resume your boxing career. I also read that your new trainer, Buddy McGirt, seems to believe you can still be a major player in the heavyweight division and I know some fans out there believe you can once again become heavyweight champion of the world.
I don't know about that, but what I do know is that for any comeback of yours to be taken seriously by boxing fans you must first come through me, the man who knocked you out in four rounds in July 2004.
Your fight with me last summer was called 'Return for Revenge' but it appears Mike Tyson doesn't actually go for revenge at all. Of the four men to knock you out - Buster Douglas, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis and myself - you've only tried to even the score with one of them in Holyfield.
I wonder why.
Perhaps 'Iron Mike' is only interested in facing opponents he knows he can intimidate and dominate? I guess we'll soon see. Since I beat you, you've never once given me any credit for besting you inside four rounds.
Instead, you've come out with excuse after excuse for what happened in that Louisville ring and now I see you've described me as 'a journeyman' and dismissed my victory as a fluke. Mike, I know you are a boxing historian so how come you are so unfamiliar with boxing's tradition of showing an opponent respect after the fight has happened? Are you so deep in denial?

| Danny Williams News: Danny Williams wants rematch with Mike Tyson |
|
|
 |
Danny Williams still has sleepless nights over his battering by Vitali Klitschko in December.
The 31-year-old Londoner was floored by his Ukrainian conqueror
in the first, third, seventh and eighth rounds of the WBC world
heavyweight title bout. Williams has vowed to fight on and earn another world-title
shot but first he wants a rematch with Mike Tyson, who he knocked out
in July. He said: “My right shoulder is healing but the main problem is
stress. I was up until 4am last night. I wanted that title so badly. I
had to go down to the gym and punch the bag to get my mind off it.” Yet Williams, who still has not been paid for the Klitschko fight, is confident he will get another chance.
He said: “It’s not all over. The other world champions Chris
Byrd, Lamon Brewster and John Ruiz are not in the same class as
Klitschko. “Tyson wants to come back in April and I would love to be his next opponent.”

| Danny Williams News: Williams is a joke |
|

 |
maddlibb writes "LONDON (AP) -- Danny Williams would fight Mike Tyson again but prefers a title bout against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko.
Tyson, once the most feared boxer of his era, was knocked out in the fourth round by Williams in Louisville, Ky., on July 30. Williams spent the next week making TV appearances in the United States.
``I want to fight Klitschko and become WBC champion of the world,'' Williams said Monday on his return to London. ``That has always been my dream since I was 8 years old. It's the one (Muhammad) Ali had, and it's the one I want.''
``I have beaten Tyson,'' he added. ``So I believe Klitschko would be a pushover.''
Williams was considered a journeyman before the Tyson bout. He had a record of 31-3 but never fought a prominent opponent. He lost to Julius Francis, a British fighter Tyson knocked out in the second round a few years ago.
There's no shortage of confidence now.
``I was fighting one of the all-time greats, and I was a massive underdog, but I was able to stop him in four rounds,'' Williams said. ``I'm capable of beating anyone, and well.''
Tyson, 38, underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in Phoenix on Aug. 2 to repair cartilage damage. He apparently sustained four tears in the knee late in the first round against Williams. It was Tyson's first fight in 17 months.
``He's saying that he hurt his knee, and I'd like to show him that I am a better fighter than he is,'' Williams said when asked about a rematch. ``The knee injury was a big excuse. It saddens me that he has to go to that level and make an excuse.''
Williams said he was happy to return home.
``I can't believe all the attention I'm getting, especially in the States,'' he said. ``People out there have taken to me big-time. They wanted me to stay out there, but I couldn't stay in the country any longer. I had to get out -- I was getting homesick.''

| Danny Williams News: Williams wants Tyson rematch |
|
|
 |
Danny Williams will put his world title dreams on hold to seek a lucrative rematch with Mike Tyson.
The
Brixton 31-year-old gatecrashed the world heavyweight elite by defeating former world champion Tyson in four rounds in Louisville on Friday
night.
He is desperate to fulfil a
lifelong ambition and claim a version of the crown once held by his
vanquished opponent. But first Williams will pursue the arguably more
lucrative option of persuading Tyson back into the ring.
Williams said: "I think people may doubt my victory so I would like to give Mike another beating.
"I'd like to fight him one more time to show it wasn't a fluke and I can still perform a lot better than this.
"I'd
love for the fight to be in London and it would be nice to give the
British fans something by beating him up even worse next time."
Williams
expects to be left 175,000 US dollars light of his purse for Friday's
fight after a last-minute dispute with the local promoter.
He
was placated with a paper bag full of 80,000 US dollars in cash
straight from the box office and was urged by his promoter Frank Warren
to forget the shortfall to chase the win which would secure his
financial future.
Warren said: "I said to Danny, you aren't going to get any more money out of this but this is a fight you can win.
"Now
Danny is in the driving seat. It is all about securing the right
financial future for him and his family. There is no rematch clause
with Tyson but we will take it if the money is right."
